Yum. A little apprehensive because the rest of the restaurants on this block were packed, but there weren't many folks dining at Anna's. It's a small place, but my roomie and I were greeted by a friendly and knowledgeable server who was full of recommendations. We I both opted for the $9 trio, which consists of a smaller main course, choice of house or Caesar salad, and choice between two of the house desserts, which are cinnamon bread pudding with raisins and blueberry pineapple cobbler. Firstly, I hate raisins in my desserts, especially because I always think that they're chocolate chips. Also, I feel like everything is microwaved before it comes out... at least it comes out hot. lol. Anyway, I'm not mad about it, but I think these entrees are made in batches in the morning or the night before and then microwaved to order. There was also a fly in my glass of water. Anyway, I don't know if these details I'm sharing (i.e. microwaved food and bug in beverage) are making this place sound bad, but I really enjoyed my lasagna, and the salad was good too! Their desserts are by far the weakest, and I would come back.

This evening I had dinner here for the first time in over two years. I used to come here a lot but had become pretty lukewarm to the place, as they raised their prices a lot and the food didn't overwhelm me quite so much. I ordered the 11-spice rotisserie chicken with mac and cheese and mashed potatoes on the side -- my favorite entree -- and it was good but nothing amazing. I wouldn't have upped my review to 4 stars except I really like the server that we had -- she was very efficient and friendly. If the food was as good as it sounds on the menu then I would give this place 5 stars but it just isn't in my opinion. However, I hope they are able to retain good workers because that makes a big difference!

Words can't express how awesome this place is! First and foremost, Jo is such a wonderful person! She makes you feel so welcome and just like family! Her warm smile fills the entire restaurant...she always makes us feel right at home. The food is absolutely fantastic! We have had the lasagna, fried chicken, roast chicken, veggie sandwich, cobbler, bread pudding, ice cream, meatloaf, pot pie and mac-n-cheese...all have been fantastic! The fried chicken is by-far our favorite. The Mac-n-cheese is non-traditional but lovely in its own way. A more mature palate can appreciate the cheeses that aren't manufactured by Kraft. We highly recommended Anna's Oven! A place with vision and a business plan that donates 50% of its profits to underprivileged schools in Africa...one could never go wrong supporting such a cause!!! Kudos to all the owners for their part in this amazing restaurant and cause!

My, my, my this food is good. I was really hoping for the stroganoff fort lunch, but this super awesome fish was sold out. I did a back up with the meat loaf. Wow, just sublime. I followed it up with a lemon bar for dessert and I made a right choice. So if you have the chance, pop in and relax, enjoy the smiling service.

I've never been so moved to write a review. I literally just got back from having a wonderful lunch at Anna's Oven. If I only had one word to describe Anna's Oven, it would be "quaint." Fortunately for you, reader, I have plenty of words to say about my dining experience. I don't know if it is because it's raining today and just feeling that 'vibe,' but walking into Anna's, I felt instantly at peace and just "chill." The decor is very rustic/vintage-y and just very "home." I can not speak highly enough about our waitress. She is very sweet, personable and pretty downright adorable. She brought a constant smile to our face and was very comfortable in her element. Now the food. I ordered the spicy lasagne and Kenny had the beef stroganoff (per recommendation of our server). Both were really, really good--our clean plates after the meal was clearly evidence of that. For dessert (because there's always room for dessert), we had the blueberry-lemon coffee cake. Two-thumbs waaaay up. Everything was good until the last crumb was eaten. As we were paying, our server told us that 50% of the proceeds go to help aid young girls' education in Kenya. I completely, whole-heartedly recommend Anna's Oven. You leave full, happy and satisfied! Can't wait to go back!

My goodness this place is amazing! Went here on a pretty dreary day for some comfort food and I left with the biggest smile on my face and a full belly! It's a nice little quiet diner tucked away on a busy street. Everything on the menu is around $10 bucks or less and it tastes like lovingly crafted home cooked food. You get a very good size portion too! I ordered the Meatloaf Meal and it was delicious. It came with mashed potatoes and gravy along with cooked zucchini. Their was only one waitress when we went and it wasn't busy at all. She took great care of us and was very friendly! I will definitely be coming back, and if you ask me the table by the window with the makeshift checkers board on it is the best spot in the house!
(5)Bennett P.
Excellent service and delicious menu. I had the lasagna once and the Mac and cheese twice --both highly recommend! Also, they're known for their fried chicken. It's small and homey and a great place for a casual date night!
(5)Lisa R.
Going here is like going home for a home cooked meal from mom or grandma. Very tasty comfort food and it's yummy every time. I love getting the chicken dishes and it's very tender and moist. The macaroni and cheese hits the spot and with bacon it's even better. Go here when you need a big ol' food hug.
(5)Katie W.
Meatloaf with mac & cheese, please! Desserts are quite fantastic. A quaint little restaurant with big windows for people watching no matter where you're seated. Friendly service.
(5)Curtis H.
Great little comfort food place within walking distance of ku medical center. The meatloaf dinner was quite good as meatloaf goes. Tasty mashed potatoes and well prepared squash rounded out an 11.00 plate. I was torn between desserts and eventually settled on the bread pudding. It was a very good bread pudding with cinnamon and raisins along with a very tasty drizzle. Could have used just a touch of whipped cream or maybe ice cream to make it top notch. As it was I give it 7.5 out of 10, and I grade hard. I almost chose the blueberry pineapple cobbler based on the rave reviews, and I regret that my metabolism only allows one dessert. (I ate alone which prevented me talking a companion into splitting choices.) Good choices of beer or wine at decent prices, atmosphere conducive to conversation if you wish, and half of the profits benefit area schools/educational programs. Give it a try. I think you will be pleased.
(4)Jessyca C.
Their rotisserie chicken is always so juicy and flavorful! That Mac and cheese is superb! Lots of flavors and great portions. Tonight I tried their cinnamon raisin bread pudding. OMG! They use a Carmel sauce over the top that just gives the bread pieces the added moisture and makes it complete!!
(4)Sharon M.
This was my first visit to Anna's Oven & I'll be back. Susan was our server and she recommended any of the dishes with the house - made noodles so I had the Beef Stroganoff and my friend had the Lasagna and salad. Both were excellent, along with a bottle of wine. Rotisserie Chicken and salad were chosen by my other friend and she gave them high marks. I so appreciated hearing from our server how the owners donate 50% of their profits to educate kids in Africa, (Uganda, if I remember correctly.) Very admirable for a small, local restaurant to give back like that.
(4)Kevin H.
Nice quiet neighborhood cafe. Their homemade noodles are delicious. Especially in the Beef Stroganoff. It is delicious. They feature a wonderful variety of gourmet Mac & Cheeses. Give it a whirl, you'll enjoy it.
(4)Crystal C.
Also - not sure how I could forget to mention my favorite necessity of this establishment.. the CHOCOLATE CAKE!
(4)Tim L.
My teenage daughter and I dropped in because she was craving mashed potatoes and we were so happy we did. Besides a great side of mashed Yukon Golds, we tried the lasagna and mac and cheese with bacon. Every bite of each was delicious. Our server was prompt, friendly and helpful. The food came out quick and looked almost as good as it tasted. The prices were very fair in relation to the quality and portions. We took a meals worth of leftovers. We highly recommend it!
(5)todd b.
This place deserves to continue to stay in business folks. The food is comfortable, the prices are well within reason and 1/2 the profits go to charity. Do yourself a favor and go here the next time you are in the Volker / KU Med Area.

Tonight was our first time trying Anna's Oven, which our server knew because we told her we heard about it on yelp. We will most likely not be coming back again. First, it took quite a while for our server to greet us at our table. That was fine though, we didn't think anything of it. We ordered, and then we waited. And waited and waited, without any sign of our server. Finally, she saw us waiting, and she came over and told us that there had been a mix up in the kitchen... And asked us for our orders again. It was about 50 minutes before we got our food. The food, however, was delicious. We had the traditional lasagna and the southwest blanco mac and cheese, both wonderful. Our server also offered us complimentary mini desserts, which we opted to take to-go. The bread pudding and the pineapple blueberry cobbler were both good. We commented that we wished we could have the food again, but probably would not go back because of the time and lack of service. It's too bad the food was overshadowed by a less than stellar experience.
(2)Rusty P.
Amazing! Food and service is amazing! Best kept secret in Kansas City! Fried chicken and beef stroganoff are to die for!
(5)Monica F.
So glad to find this place. Will be going back soon. Had meatloaf sandwich and clam chowder. Soup was some of the best I've ever had. Great presentation too. Love the aid being sent to Kenya to help educate young girls. Must try!
(4)Tammy P.
If you want some comfort food, this place has the best chicken pot pie and Mac n Cheese, EVAR!!!!! I love the fact that you can get the Mac n cheese spicy too (southwest style)! Came for lunch and thought the place was pretty cute and quaint, almost like being in grammy's kitchen. Had a good wine selection also.
(5)Chris L.
The lasagna is out of this world! If you haven't been here yet you must try it. I have only been the once and can only speak for the lasagna but it is was dare I say better than my mothers. Don't tell mom I said that. Seriously eat here often!
(5)Kelsey H.
SO delish! Their chicken -- so tender and juicy!! Mac and cheese LOOKED amazing-- but didn't have much flavor. Mashed potatoes and gravy were both so good, rich. Good ole home cooked meal!!
(5)Catherine K.
Yum! The Pot pie was a great call. We also had the bread pudding and the Pineapple blueberry pecan cobbler. I'd get it again and I'd be back.
(4)Maura M.
My husband and I were new in town and walked right past this place without thinking twice. After seeing the Yelp reviews, we decided to give it a try. SO glad we did. The waitress was super sweet, and the food was awesome. I got the chicken and noodles and could not stop eating it. Per our waitress's recommendation, we split the bread pudding for dessert. Also very, very good. I left wanting to come back for every meal and to bring all my friends and family here too.

We found this place when my son was born at KU Hospital -simple walk. It was late and it was quite at this particular place. The girl working told to bring my wife some Mac & Cheese. OMG. It was spectacular with the green chiles. The pasta was perfect and had the right ridges for maximum absorption. We loved it so much my wife asked for it each night we were in the hospital 2 more nights). I've since tried the lasagna and beef stroganoff - both also very good. There are only 2 things keeping it from a 5-star for us. It is very slow food. The service is fine but don't go with a timeline. If I go for a lunch it's usually over an hour. Also - this is petty (I know) but they only have cans of soda. I don't know why that bugs me. I'm sure it's to have fewer dishes to wash but every time I go I think, man I wish I had a large refillable soda for my wait that I could also enjoy with my dinner. Nothing major. All in- this place is very good.

Just ok, is probably the phrase I'd use to describe the food. My boyfriend and I actually didn't get the full experience of eating at the restaurant since they were closed due to maintenance issues when we came by at 2pm. Fortunately I had to run to work for an emergency so it didn't bother me too much anyways. My boyfriend did get food to go later a little after their 4:30 reopening. Apparently the cooks took his order since there was no manager or waitresses (not too surprised by this...). He got me the american macaroni with bacon as well as the blueberry pineapple cobbler. The macaroni wasn't amazing and I was actually a bit disappointed. A bit bland to say the least. The breadcrumbs weren't great either. I'm actually adding a star on for the cobbler!! Probably the best I've ever had. If you eat anything, let it be the cobbler.

According to my dining companions my experience here was a rare "off night" for the food. The food was fine, just...not what it had been built up to be. Since it was Friday I had to get the fried chicken. The batter was nice and crispy but just lacked seasoning. I rarely ever salt my food but I ended up having to throw some salt on it. I was also able to taste some of the mac and cheese and stroganoff. The mac and cheese was good, not spectacular, but good. The stroganoff really lacked seasoning and sauce. It was very bland and had very little beef and mushrooms. My other issue was that our server just couldn't seem to get his act together. He was very friendly but just...weird. When he was talking about the menu he mentioned how he loved the mac/cheese but overall hated cheese. What?? First, who hates cheese? Second, what an odd thing to say. Overall he was attentive but couldn't keep any information straight. Couldn't remember who ordered what, the tickets were all messed up (and when everyone had one drink and one entree I dont see how that happens). Because of all the other reviews and my friend's assertion that this place is normally spot on I might try it again. I hope that my experience with the food really was just a fluke.

I'm hoping that our visit today is just a "bad luck" kind of experience because we have had some tasty meals at Anna's Oven in the past. It has been over a year since we were last there and they have made some changes in that time. The back door now has a prominent sign telling customers to go around front -- probably a good thing and I'm not complaining. You no longer order at the counter; there is waiter service. Also, no complaints except that does bring up my reason for the update and the down-grade in rating stars. Our friendly server brought us menus and asked what we would like to drink. So far, so good. Hubby knew what he wanted as he ALWAYS orders the Lasagna, but I wasn't sure and read about several selections finally deciding on the Beef Stroganoff and, boy, was I ever looking forward to chunks of tender pot roast and fresh made paper thin noodles paired with a side of roasted Seasonal Vegetables. Then our waiter came back for our order but when I ordered he (then) announced that unfortunately they were out of the Stroganoff and, oh yes, they also were out of the Lasagna! Hubby didn't take it well! And after looking for a substitute meal, found nothing else that he craved. I checked the menu again and decided to get the Mac n Cheese done Southwest Blanco style with chopped green chilies and the addition of sliced sausage. The pasta was quite good but the 6 to 8 thin slices of sausage, while tasty, was not really a bargain at a $3.00 up charge. Hubby finally said he would just have a Brownie, only to be told that there were no Brownies and would he want to order a cookie? That was a big "NO!" And he ended up just keeping me company while I ate. It WAS his choice -- but it might have been a nice gesture if our server had at least offered to bring him a cookie at no change. After we paid our bill, we headed over to Cupini's on Westport Road where they had plenty of delicious Lasagna available and I kept him company as he devoured it (me enjoying a slice of their Tiramisu). So that is the end of my odd little tale. And I would advise that the next time Anna's runs out of Lasagna, that they remove their folding sign board from the front sidewalk advertising their salad, lasagna & drink special.

Good food, at prices a little dear. I understand they donate some proceeds to charity, so I'll take that into consideration. The interior is homey and comfortable. Our tabletop was a checkerboard whose squares were details of famous paintings-fun when you're eating with an artist! One wall currently displays some amazing pen-and-ink art. Our server was very friendly, and the food came out very quickly. I had the Mediterranean Tuna salad last night, and I enjoyed it. Finely flaked white tuna was dressed with vinaigrette instead of mayo, which made me happy. This sat on a bed of greens that were a nice balance of sturdy and lacy, accompanied by cucumbers, tomato chunks, and croutons. The herb vinaigrette dressing was rich enough to stay on the salad without being oily. My friend got 1/4 of a rotisserie chicken with mac & cheese. The chicken breast was juicy and forked apart; the mac & cheese must've had some sharp cheddar in it, I didn't think it was bland as some have said. The bread pudding was OUTSTANDING! Very moist and "loose", not sticky and heavy-just the way I like it! It had a caramel flavor, lots of raisins, and a little bit of brown sugar crust. Delicious! They also had a pineapple blueberry cobbler on the menu that sounded intriguing-if it's still on the menu the next time I'm in the neighborhood, I think I'll give it a go.

If you're craving your momma's home cookin', welcome to Anna's Oven. Walking through the doors is like coming home - mainly because it looks like a house - and it's small with comforting music and decor. I suggest going for Fried Chicken Fridays where you can celebrate the end of the work week with three pieces of fried chicken and two sides for $10. Anna's has perfected the ratio of crunchy outer skin and plump juicy meat. No grease, just damn good fried chicken. Good as a side or as a meal, the mac and cheese is made with imported Italian radiator pasta, creamy cheese and topped with buttered bread crumbs. A generous serving of cheese, butter and cream mean this mac and cheese is rich, bitch. For dessert, try one of their warm homemade cobblers with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or my personal favorite, the Key Lime Pie. Once you've polished that off, kiss your momma's cooking goodbye because Anna's Oven takes the cake.
(5)Logan Locke B.
It wasn't awful. We went late (8:15p-- place closes at 9p). Service was good. But my companion and I felt like the staff wanted us out as soon as we were finished-- kind of weird feeling, but we were dining late. The food is fine. As a whole, the table ordered Meatloaf and Mac & Cheese and chicken noodle soup. I would go back for a side of Mac & Cheese, but the meal+value was pretty pricey. It is nice to know you can get home cooked meal on 39th Street West. I don't think it would be my first choice to go back-- but I wouldn't say no if someone else suggested it.
(3)Jennifer D.
Excellent service and the food was wonderful. We started with the Southwestern Blanco mac and cheese which was very good. My husband had the special, fried chicken. The chicken was moist and delicious, the veggies were perfectly grilled, and the gravy on the mashed potatoes tasted homemade. I had the trio with beef stroganoff (homemade noodles), salad and the blueberry pineapple pecan cobbler. Holy cow! I will be back for this combo! The stroganoff was ahhhmazing and the cobbler - divine. Plus, at $9, it was a steal and the portion size left me very satisfied.
(5)Marc S.
I wish I'd reviewed this place when I first started going because it would have easily been 5 stars, and it would have been honest. Unfortunately, in my curse of being forever honest, I have to give Anna's a solid 3 stars and it makes me feel bad. The food has declined incredibly over several months as prices have only gone up. What was once a great deal for great food is now an overpriced pile of microwaved mush. I'm sorry Anna.
(3)Sirena L.
This is the restaurant I will keep returning to. Each bite is SO DAMNED GOOD!!! Huge portion of traditional lasagna and every bite made me want to go mmmmmmmnnnn. The dear little waitress helped me decide on a wine (great choice, Haley). And I am sorry, but choose the pecan pie over the cobbler. Cobbler is great but the pecan pie is heavenly. Ate there last week and the lunch was awesome, but today convinced me I must return. I must, I must. Great staff, cook knows what he is doing! Rave, rave, rave review. Eat here. It will be your new happy place.
(5)Geoff M.
The lasagna was delicious! Everything was quick and very reasonably priced. The staff was attentive and knowledgable. I will definitely return for another enjoyable experience!

I came here to meet with a few other Kansas City foodies. It was a very cold evening and probably the coldest this year even though it's been a not even two weeks of the year. I believe there was a parking lot in the back but I parked on the street and walked over. This was a small restaurant and there weren't a lot of people there. It was probably the very cold weather that kept everybody at home. The people who worked here were really nice and I asked them what was good. It was pretty much the Mac & Cheese and the Lasagna. I'm sure the others on the menu were good. Speaking of their menu, it was really simple and really had 6 main dishes, 8-9 salads and sides, and 3 desserts. There were others not on the menu that I don't remember. I ordered the Spicy Southwest Blanco Mac & Cheese ($6 for a single) and added chicken for $2 for a single. It came with either a soup or salad so I chose the soup. The soup was good and a good appetizer. I tried a piece of the Bread with Dipping Oil ($3) and it tasted like garlic bread but still good to me. lol Our table's food arrived and a lot of the dishes were a good portion for one person in my opinion. My Spicy Southwest Blanco Mac & Cheese was pretty good and the amount of spiciness wasn't overbearing. It was just the right amount of spicy that made it good. The chicken wasn't bad but I was thinking about choosing the roast beef... maybe next time. I finished my dish and I was pretty full. I didn't save any room for dessert like almost everybody else did so I ended up trying some Bread Pudding and some Blueberry Pineapple Cobbler ($4). Both were delicious but I would choose the Blueberry Pineapple Cobbler if I had to order a dessert. The Bread Pudding was a little on the sweet side and a whole lot of it. This place had great Mac & Cheese and the food here can be best described as comfort food. In addition, 50% of the profit goes to help support education in places that might not thrive (paraphrased from the menu). Cool!

Went over the Christmas season (2013) with family of 5 and two friends. I thought the service was good no complaints their. The table was like a family dinner table- maybe smaller then some would like but cozy. I remember really enjoying my food, beer, and desert and everyone else enjoying as well. Didn't notice the prices, but my sister continues to go back so I'm thinking it's decent. Attempted to return 8/4/2014 but closed due to A/C issue....so sad can't wait to try again and pay more attention to price, service and food quality. I recommend you go for your self as these reviews are ALL over the place!
(4)Whitney D.
We met friends here for dinner last night and had a great time! Our server and the ambience were lovely. The Spicy Southwest American Mac & Cheese was great. Bonus: 50% of the proceeds go to the Missouri education system!

I love Anna's Oven! Good home cooked meals with local ingredients make it a wonderful place to take friends and family. They also donate to charity and Harvesters too I believe. I love the mac and cheese and the veggy lasagne, but the thing that is amazing is their roasted chicken dishes! It is a bit more expensive, but it is worth it. I have been there a few times and the service is a bit slow, but they are all very nice and great otherwise. It is a great place for the whole family or to get a table for one with a good read. I'm hoping in the future they will figure their out the kinks, but other than that it is awesome to have in the Volker area!
(4)Kelly S.
I came here for a work lunch a couple of weeks ago and it was awesome! I've been going to Genghis Khan and Jazz for years so I've seen it a million times but I had never actually been inside. It's very cute and cozy and for a cold, horrible day like the one we were having, it was perfect. MOST of the food we had was excellent. My beef stroganoff was tasty, my co-worker's chicken was juicy and great, and the chicken and noodles were hearty and delicious. The only complaint I had was this: we all ordered salads to start and the waitress told us there was a "house vinaigrette," which we all chose. Our salads came out with a thick, creamy, mustardy dressing on them. When I think of a vinaigrette, I think of something light and sort of refreshing, this salad was drowning in creamy gross mustard. I don't like a lot of dressing on my salad anyway (my own mistake for forgetting to ask for it on the side), so it was just not my cup of tea at all. For dessert we got a berry cobbler which was good, but definitely would have benefited from a little bit of ice cream. All in all, it was good comfort food and I'll definitely go back when that's what I'm in the mood for, I'll just be a little more careful about what I order.
(4)Elizabeth M.
My daughter had Annas for her wedding! It was to die for delicious. She had her heart set on a taco bar but after trying the lasagna and mac and cheese she was hooked. Everyone raved about the food. We ordered 4 party lasagna and 2 party size mac/cheeses.....this was way more than need to feed 75 people...and most of those went back for seconds. WTG ANNAS!
(5)Matt O.
Sometimes you want to eat with your family (yes, including kids) and you want something that is home cooked without having to do it yourself and without having to go to an expensive and pretentious restaurant. I am thankful that I just found Anna's Oven to satisfy this need. I am not traditionally a fan of spinach artichoke dip but found theirs to be quite good. The choices are what you would expect from a place like this - lasagna, beef stroganoff, meatloaf, sandwiches, soups, roasted chicken are just a few of the traditional items that one could grab here. The mashed potatoes and gravy and the zucchini I had were excellent. I was perhaps the most surprised and pleased that my picky kids ate their entire servings of chicken with noodles (quite flavorful) and the macaroni and cheese. I tried both of these dishes and both were very good.
(4)Bethanie W.
I hate to cook and long are the days I can go home and ask mom or dad to cook me a home-cooked meal served with love. Anna's Oven solved this problem for me. The restaurant itself looks like my dining room and the server was so friendly and quick to greet us. My group of three opted for the rotisserie chicken, mac and cheese and mashed potatoes. All were phenomenal. The chicken was juicy and full of flavor and I will go back just for the mac and cheese alone. They have 4-5 different M&C options which means I will need to go back that amount of times. I couldn't leave without dessert as I was completely intrigued by the blueberry and pineapple cobbler. I am so glad I didn't skip. It was such an amazing combo. I can't believe I hadn't had it before. It was sweet yet refreshing so the heat didn't interfere with the hot day outside. Why the 4 stars? It was pretty pricy, I thought, but nothing to dissuade me from going back. I will be back as I miss home-cooked meals often and suggest you try out this little gem as well.

Chose this place as a birthday lunch destination with my family today. I wasn't sure what to expect because my fellow Yelpers' reviews were so mixed. Here's the dish: Positives: I love the atmosphere and decor. It's welcoming and puts you right at ease. I especially love the table adorned in robots! I love the fact that 50% of their profits goes to help those in need and that the portions here are large. The one man staff who was there when we dined in was both helpful and pleasant. Negatives: The food isn't that great. It looks amazing but lacks flavor. My boyfriend ordered the lasagna and I think he chose best out of the four of us. My All American mac & cheese was generous and filling but didn't taste like anything. If I go here again I will definitely add the chiles. My Dad ordered the meatloaf, and while he didn't let me try any, he said it was just okay. My Mom had the Just Noodles and although the amount of noodles they gave her was quite generous, they didn't taste like anything. I might give this place another shot since I didn't get to try the dessert but it won't be at the top of my list for dining options.

First things first- the women who work at Anna's are so genuinely nice you won't believe it. Friendly w/o being obnoxious, they all seem knowledgeable about the menu and interested in whether or not you've enjoyed your meal. Truly a refreshing experience for someone who eats out a lot. Second things second- I've had the meatloaf and the smothered pork chop. Both were good, the meatloaf was better but neither will win any awards in the culinary innovation department but that's ok. I'm not looking for innovation in my comfort food, which for the record I know I could cook at home but why would I want to do that when Anna's serves it too me at ridiculously cheap prices (both were generous servings at about $8 including sides) and I won't have to do any dishes. Score! Third things third- Buy a bottle of wine for christ's sake! They offer glasses at $6 bucks a pop and whole bottles for $12!! The rose/cabernet sauvignon blend is fantastic and a fantastic deal. Fourth things fourth- While I haven't eaten them myself, three people I know have sworn by the mac and cheese and one has raved about the chicken and noodles (which was possibly the largest serving I have ever seen!).
(4)Bill B.
Comfort food, served rapidly, using local ingredients, with an emphasis on meat loaf, mac and cheese, and lasagna. With such a modest sounding menu, I was not expecting much, when I ordered the vegetarian lasagna. It was really, really good. Ordinarily I'd give this sort of restaurant 3 stars. But unlike many restaurants of this sort, Anna's Oven has wine and beer. Lasagna without wine and beer? Impossible. So I added a fourth star for having wine and beer. Relative to what it is, Anna's Oven is very good. But I"d be happier if they'd broaden the menu. I'm not a big fan of meat loaf, and would be a lot happier if they would also offer shrimp or fish.

Went here for the first time the other evening for a Foodspotting meetup dinner. Two words: rich and fabulous! Myself and eight other foodies photographed and drooled over our entrees and desserts. I ordered the vegetarian lasagna - it was so creamy and flavorful, had chunks of eggplant and mushrooms. A side of grilled zucchini and bread (dry - save the carbs for more lasagna) accompanied it. For dessert, I had the pineapple blueberry pecan cobbler a la mode. I rarely order dessert, but couldn't pass this up and was so glad I didn't! The guy to my right is also a vegetarian and ordered the spicy southwest mac n' cheese - he claimed it was the best he's ever had. I can't wait to drag my boyfriend back so I can try it. Portions are large (and cheap!) you could probably split or take some home if you want to save room for dessert (highly recommend). Ask if they have specials, they had a chicken pot pie and pumpkin bread pudding that weren't listed on the blackboard. Casual, comfort food at it's best! Staff is super sweet and attentive. Excellent service. Plus half the proceeds go to local charities. If I haven't convinced you enough already, go, go, go!!

So, I live in Volker and have had Anna's a few times. If I would have written my review after the first time Anna's would of received 5 stars!! We had the special a salad, white mac and cheese with bacon, and pineapple blueberry cobbler. EVERYTHING was delicious! They even messed up the order and gave us more food than we were supposed to get. I was dying to go back. The second time, 4 stars, we went with the special again, this special was a quarter of the all spice chicken salad and a parfait. Again delish, my sides, however, were cold. Cold potatoes and veggies!?! And I did feel that the woman at the counter sort of forced a glass of wine on me. Not that I have a problem with a glass of wine, but maybe just not with my first meal of the day. The third time, 1 star, was enough for me not to go back. Again the daily special, this was a chicken salad sammy and a soup. The soup was....well I can't remember, so not memorable. The sandwich was a joke. It was "half" a sandwich with a curry chicken salad. The bread was regular toasted sliced Wonder bread, it was 1 slice cut diagonally with a tablespoon (no joke!) A TABLESPOON of chicken salad. I took 3 bites of each thing and it was gone. They have great prices but at some point their low prices started reflecting on the amount of food they were serving. I'm not going back.

I adore this cozy little restaurant. Get a half salad and mac & cheese. You won't regret it. The whole mac and cheese is too much for one setting so bring a friend to share it with or be prepared for leftovers. The bread pudding is scrumptious, but make sure you get it warmed up -not cold.

I really wanted to love this place. And I do love the place itself. The decor has a cozy outdoor back patio feel mixed with the kitchen of the Italian mother you never had. I'm sad to say I don't love the food. I've eaten Anna's Oven catered 4 times and eaten at the restaurant once. All of these times I've had the Mac and Cheese, and quite frankly, it's bland. Even the with the chicken and southwestern spices it still falls short. The service when I was there was fine and friendly, and the location is cozy. Portion sizes are HUGE - there was plenty leftover for 2 more meals. I'm sure I'll be back many times, but I'll probably steer clear of the Mac.

There were some wonderful moments of my experience here by also some pretty horrible ones so I feel like I have to give some pointers on what needs to be worked on in order for this to be a better experience. I had to basically tell my boyfriend to think happy thoughts as we sat waiting for our food for an hour on a Saturday night. He was 5 seconds from walking up for a refund when they brought our food to us finally. Best vegetarian lasagna I have ever had. But my boyfriends spicy meat lasagna seemed to not have any ricotta, and was bland and he compared it to Stouffers microwave lasagna. We watched uncomfortably as a large number of guests waited, and waited and waited for their food, only to have their orders messed up or be told they were out of something. I do no think the current system of ordering at the counter is working for them, no one knew what order went to what table and the confusion was apparent to everyone in the restaurant. We finished our meal with the pineapple blueberry cobbler and it was TO DIE FOR. Served a la mode, with the most delicious pecan crumble on top. Our server, who was as sweet as pie herself, was working so hard and had the best personality and charm despite the fact the restaurant seemed to be really struggling with execution that night. She brought out a piece of the pumpkin bread pudding free since I loved the cobbler so much and as an olive branch on the obviously rough 1st experience. It was also mind blowing delicious. They have the comfort , made with love from your grandma desserts thing down pat. A few other things to work on would be- Ice from a red tailgating cooler on a table. Surely there has to be a more professional way to serve ice? This wasn't charming it was gross. Lighting- Was way too bright. Not only did it make the restaurant super hot but no one looks attractive with track lighting shooting in their face. With the lights dimmed this place would have a great casual romantic feel. Mac and cheese- We got a side of the American and did not like it at all. It wasn't creamy or cheesy, mostly bland and sad. If this place is going to be comfort food heaven they need to nail mac and cheese. Microwave - In plain view in the kitchen- you see it , you hear it beeping. Just leaves you walking away from the register with a not so home made feeling. I can't wait to return to this place in 6 months or so when they have ironed out all the kinks. I think they would totally benefit from waitress service to help eliminate the confusion and delay happening between placing your order at the counter and the eternity before it ends up , correctly, at your table...

Whatever ignominious reviewers, Anna's Oven is full of all sorts of wondrous home cooked treasures. Meatloaf, Mac and cheese, Chicken, this list goes on. This is true home food cooked in a home. Really a treasure to have this place as an eating option.
(4)Stacy L.
I loved the food here. I had the Southwest Mac & Cheese with Chicken and it was so good. It came with a side of spaghetti squash that I devoured, and then ate my hubby's portion. We also got the bread with dipping oils that was yummy. Hubby had the meatloaf dinner. I enjoyed the home-cooked feeling, but the service was lacking. I am sure they are saving money by not having servers, but I was on crutches & they did not even try to make it easier on us. However, because of the good food, I am pretty sure I will be back. There were a few items on the menu I want to try.

I am really surprised by the rating for this place. If you like bland, unseasoned food, this is the place for you, otherwise, skip it! I tried the fried chicken special. It came with three pieces of chicken, mashed potatoes and white gravy, zucchini, and a slice of bread. While there was a lot of food, the chicken had no flavor. At least some salt and pepper would make it better, additional seasons would help tremendously. The chicken used is very poor quality and has little meat on the bones. The mashed potatoes were chunky, but pastelike and again, a little salt and pepper would help a lot. The white gravy also lacked flavor. It didn't have the chicken grease or butter taste and again, at least salt and pepper are much needed. The zucchini was surprising very good and well seasoned. I wish there would have been more of it as it was the best thing on the plate. The bread appeared to be homemade and was ok, but nothing to get overly excited about. I also tried the macaroni and cheese and it was also extremely disappointing and flavorless. This place is in much need of a spice rack. The atmosphere is great. Very old home/rustic feel and the music is great. Restroom was spacious, but does need a hook. The staff is very friendly and courteous. I always say, if the food is good you don't need salt and pepper shakers on the tables. Sadly, this food is so bland, adding salt and pepper at the table does not help. Skip eating here and enjoy some of the exceptional restaurant offerings along 39th street!

Unfortunately, the week I told my trainer I would be good is the week that my friends want to go to the comfort food restaurant. I officially reserve this place for my next cheat day!! I loved the homey and casual feel of this place. It is small but comfortable. I felt like I was being invited into someone's dining room. I had a salad with the 10-spice chicken and was very satisfied, but would be interested in trying their Mac and Cheese sometime. My friends both ordered that and I was very envious and forlorn that I only ordered salad. The portions where generous and my friends took hefty leftovers for their lunches the next day.We also ordered a plate of hummus and bruschetta. Both were good but not life changing. The server was attentive and kept our water filled up, but didn't bother us every 5 seconds. I will definitely be coming back.

I was excited about this place after a friend talked it up like it was the next best restaurant to try - and looking here on Yelp and seeing the positive reviews I figured I was in for a treat. The place has a down home feel to it, the decor is pretty nice and it's a cozy little place. The food came out and definitely looked amazing. However, the food is bland and unseasoned. Not that great at all. I've made better meatloaf at home than what I was served (and I need to get my friend's tastebuds checked as he told me it was the best meatloaf he's ever had). A friend of mine that went with us got the chicken pot pie and while it looked amazing, the portion was quite small and only had a couple pieces of chicken in it - he said it was also very bland as well. The food is pricey and not that great in the end. I don't eat at restaurants just for the atmosphere - this is a place I won't be coming back to.

I've been meaning to try Anna's for awhile. I've walked by the place several times and considered it, but ended up having other plans or craving something else. Today, I ended up walking into the place for a late lunch and I am very happy to have done so! Anna's Oven focuses on comfort food. The menu is small, but has good options and caters to carnivores and vegetarians alike. This is a situation where you walk in and order at a counter and then the food is brought to you once it's prepared. After taking a look at the menu and specials, my husband opted to go with the meatloaf with mashed potatoes and gravy and he opted for a $2 side salad (that is a great price for the size and quality of the side salad!). I went with the 10-spice rotisserie chicken with a side salad and mashed potatoes. Our eyes were larger than our stomachs and we got an order of the hummus as well. Something to consider ... the portion sizes are quite generous. This is something I definitely will keep in mind upon future visits to Anna's Oven. The food was delicious. My chicken was succulent and while I didn't indulge too much in terms of eating the skin, it was very well seasoned. I had a bit of the meatloaf as well. It's a little different than most meatloaves I have had. I can't quite put my finger on it, but I did find it to be quite tasty. If you are interested in a starter, I can recommend the hummus. It had a nice kick of garlic to it and the pita bread was warm with some crispy edges, which I prefer. The restaurant itself is pretty comfortable. I like that they have a mix of table sizes. The music being played left a bit to be desired, but I could get past it. Overall, this place has good food with a nice serving staff. The place is comfortable and very reasonably priced for what you get.

Have heard so many people rave about the mac & cheese for the past few months this place has been open so I was suprised that there weren't more people here when I came for lunch around noon. Ordered the "special" Anna's Trio for my first visit. The trio consisted of half a plate of your average spring mix salad with a flavorful vinagrette dressing which came on the side. The other half of the plate consisted of their blanco mac & cheese with pieces of whitemeat chicken. Wish the pieces of chicken were bigger but otherwise it was delish! The third part of the trio was a blueberry pineapple cobbler topped with a scoop of vanilla ice-cream. The ice-cream was a suprise addition that our waitress suggested which wasn't on the menu. Casual atmosphere and friendly staff. I'll be back.

We'd heard about Anna's Oven from some friends, so we tried it one rainy night. The reputation is for comfort food, and Anna's delivered. I wasn't that impressed with the mac and cheese, and the beef stroganoff was more sauce and pasta than beef. We will probably go back as I really want to try the Chicken Pot Pie. I would have tried it the first time we went but it was only listed on the "specials board." The board was outside and the specials had washed away by the time we arrived. Still, I hear the pot pie is good and that the owners were thinking about putting it on the menu full-time.

Great addition to 39th street! The blanco mac & cheese was some of the best pasta I've ever had - they must make it themselves. It had just the right amount of cream and topping. Unfortunately that's what my friend had; I wasn't as big of fan of the classic mac and cheese with green chiles and chicken. It was a little dry and I wanted the chicken to be hunks of meat. It was dark meat shredded off rotisserie chickens, no doubt, but was a tad on the sinewy dry side. They're working out the kinks still with timing on food and getting the cash register to match the stated prices. But the counter lady was sweet and apologetic and it wasn't a big deal. Suggestion for the place: part of their plan I think is to offer take home meals for the family, but the portion sizes are a bit off for that goal. You could get a single serving for $7, or 'family-size' that feeds 9-12 people for $48. I'd like to see maybe a 2 or 4 person size somewhere in between there. The price, btw, is a huge value for what you get. They claim 50% of the profits go to charity on top of an already excellent price (how is that possible??).

This is a small place located on 39th Street. Right off the bat you will notice that the menu is on the board and you order from the cashier before sitting, at least that was how we did it. The menu was small, but filled with rich home-cooked meals. We found out that the recipes were all passed down from generations within the same family. We got mac n cheese, the veggie chili, and the chicken noodles. The meals were reasonably priced, very good sized, and delicious. The staff was super nice, and even gave the boys free cookies because we counted the robots on our table (329). We also liked the fact it was quiet. This was either a slow night or reflection of them only being open for seven months. Either way, this was a great place.

The fam and I stopped in for dessert recently. We live a block away and frequent many of the establishments on 39th Street West for after dinner desserts. Anna's Oven did not disappoint. In fact, at 50 cents each, the cookies are a steal. And good! The service was cheerful and accommodating...which is a big deal when you have a 2 year old and a 4 year old. Haven't had a chance to stop in for dinner but am looking forward to it. Enjoyed the experience so far.
(5)Beau S.
Comfort food at great prices and half of the profit goes to charity? Hell yeah, makes me feel charitable for getting fat off their well seasoned, made from scratch, family recipe food! Mac n cheese, Italian soup, fried chicken, mashed potatoes, chicken pot pie...All exceptional. Stroud's should take notes for how to make WELL SEASONED flavorful comfort food versus Midwest bland conservative republican chow.

My wife and I came with 2 friends to Anna's oven. It is a cozy, clean restaurant with nice artwork on the wall. Our server was very nice, and attentive. we started with a bruschetta appetizer. It was very tasty, and large enough for 4 to split. For my meal I ordered the Beef Stroganoff, with a side of homemade Yukon Gold mashed potatoes. My wife had the 11 spice chicken salad, and the others in our group split the Hummus appetizer. Everything was delicious. The servings were very generous, and i couldn't finish all of my food. We had brownies for dessert, and they were fantastic! Everything we had was made from scratch. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone.

If you want starchy comfort food with just a sprinkle of guilt, COME HERE. I have had a few lunch dates and they have never disappointed me. Their homemade style lasagna is wonderful and big enough to where you have leftovers :). Their MacnCheese is heaven, you can choose from a variety of cheeses and add a meat of your choice if you like. The environment is laid back and cozy and the prices are good too.
(4)Tim M.
Had been wanting to try it, and glad I finally got to. Had the mac & cheese with roasted chicken (comes as a piece of chicken on the side). It was very good, mac was every bit as good as McCoy's, chicken was roasted with nice crispy outside, juicy inside. My friend had lasagna, liked it okay. This is probably not the place to order lasagna. I liked it enough to wish I was there again, right now. Server was nice too. Nice addition to the neighborhood, a different kind of menu that was hard to find here until now. Am I going back? For sure!

i love the idea and thought of this place, but now that I've been here four (updated, 05/18/2012) times I can say that it fails miserably on execution. There is ZERO flavor and taste on the noodle dishes (stroganoff and chicken & noodles). As matter of principle, I try not to use the salt and pepper shakers, but I have been absolutely DOUSING the dish and it's still flavorless! I dont think they used a single drop of spice when cooking this dish. Also, the food is overpriced imo. Should chicken & noodles with potatoes and a warm can of Diet Coke REALLY cost $14? I don't think so. The Fried Chicken Friday is offensive. The chicken is -- as everything else there -- utterly flavorless. The potatoes bland, the zucchini tasteless. Why don't they use flavorings or spices?? I just don't get it! I have a pretty developed palette, so a condescending mess of "we want the food to have all the flavor" is utter B.S. And it is $10 + beverage, so $13. For three pieces of fat-heavy, meat-light, bland fried chicken. I now can't stand this place and will never go back. If the place is busy, and you're remotely in a hurry, then you probably won't like it either.

We tried Anna's Oven last night after refusing to wait an hour for sushi across the street. With the gray rainy weather, comfort food sounded good, and walking in and eating in literally 10 minutes was exactly what our empty stomachs needed. The mac and cheese is divine, I ordered it with green chiles and it was flavorful and so filling I could only get through 1/3 before calling it quits and taking the rest home...and it was still good even cold. My boyfriend tried the daily special which was chicken potpie and it looked like a work of art, and he said it was the best he ever had. The young woman behind the counter was so friendly she seemed to be floating on air. She is the reason I decided to write the review, I haven't had service that good in so long. She checked on us and smiled the whole time from taking our order to giving a genuine "come back soon," when we left. My one complaint is that we ordered beers and both were way too warm. I don't need ice cold (it was Boulevard) but beyond lukewarm was hard to get down. In their defense the whole place is warm, the place is small & cozy. I will still come back, especially in the winter, which I think this place will be a comforting refuge when it is cold outside. And we are definitely trying the cobbler next time.

Tasty, quick, and affordable.

I have been wanting to try Anna's Oven for quite some time so when I was taking my mother to lunch for her birthday I thought it was a great time to try it out plus I had been craving comfort food. Upon arriving, we were pleasantly greeted and told to sit where ever we wanted. Being this was our first time here, I asked the friendly waiter what his favorites were nd he recommended the potpie or stroganoff and bread pudding for dessert. Both my mother and I opted for the potpie lunch special. I asked to subsitute the side salad for a cup of chicken noodle soup which was no problem. The chicken noodle soup was good with thin egg noodles and a nice broth. I must say I was a bit disappointed in the potpie. The potpie comes in a large soup mug draped with a flaky crust. The crust was to die for, light, flaky and delicious. The actual contents of the potpie is what disappointed me. While the flavor was good, it was not what I was expecting. It was broth based and mostly filled with large chunks of celery and carrots and more of a soup consistency. While I don't dislike celery or carrots, I expect my chicken to be of equal size chunk but it was tiny shavings instead(scraps from the bones obviously). Needless, to say the flavor was still overall pretty good. Since we were celebrating my mother's birthday, I insisted we partake in dessert to go (since I needed to get back to work). I ordered the bread pudding and my mother the blueberry pineapple cobbler. After ordering and paying our bill, the waiter comes back to say that they didn't have any bread pudding so I also opted for the cobbler. As soon as I got to the office (less than 10 minutes away) I tried the cobbler. It was just ok but not something I will order again. Overall Pros: Comfort food available anytime I want it (next time, I'll try the stroganoff). Friendly staff and welcoming environment.
(3)Joe C.
This place serves really good comfort food in a really warm environment from some really nice people. Seriously. Home made food served with a purpose. The staff has been extremely friendly and helpful on all of my visits. The atmosphere is warm and comfortable. It's the perfect place to stop into if your mind needs a recharge and your body needs a really big helping of comfort. It's an odd fit for the 39th street strip, but a much needed one. Go check out Anna's and support this local business.
(4)Kevin S.
Anna's Oven has consistently good, reasonably priced comfort food. The only downside is its limited seating.
(4)J Michael W.
Unique, friendly, and good - just like walking into grandma's kitchen. The Mac & Cheese (with bacon!) was to die for - my friend had the 10 Spice Rotisserie Chicken, and it was also excellent. The bread pudding was absolutely addictive. Very reasonable prices.
(5)Jennifer H.
Not particularly tasty. It's cafeteria food. We went in during a busy lunch, and they were extremely disorganized. Orders were coming out wrong and sent to incorrect tables. All the hot food is precooked and reheated when it's ordered. The salads are premixed and served in plastic containers. I would not recommend Anna's.
(2)John P.
On a Cold WInter night, comfort food is a great way to stay warm and Anna's Oven fits that comfort. The place is lovely. Comfort Food is so great because it feels like home, this place felt cozy and comforting. I had the Meatloaf, everything was great including the sides. My wife had the Chicken with Mac and Cheese and it was wonderful. This is a very family friendly place and it's a great place to take kids. The prices are great and I cannot wait to go back to try another entree.
(4)Matt S.
Some excellent, and incredibly price-worthy food happens here. Don't leave without some bread pudding!
(4)Elizabeth N.
Absolutely perfect place to eat on a cold or depressing day. This is actually like my dream restaurant- totally relaxed atmosphere and food that I don't have to think twice about. The chicken, vegetarian lasagna, and the regular mac & cheese are all great. My boyfriend has had rotisserie chicken all over the world and he says the one at Anna's is the best ever. I really think it is so cool that some of their profits go to helping others. I will come here all the time!
(5)Molly P.
A welcome addition to the Volker district, Anna's is cozy and quaint with a small selection of comfort foods. The salads are a great deal and the caesar dressing is delicious. I ordered the meatloaf which was, honestly, sub par; however, one of the people I was dining with had the Santa Fe Mac & Cheese with chicken which was excellent. The other person ordered the Spicy Lasagna which was also delectable. Also, the service was lovely. The woman in the front was very sweet and brought around samples of brownies that were incredible. Overall, a cute little restaurant that I look forward to returning to.
(4)Randy R.
Was really impressed. Went during lunch and got the food fast. Had the beef stroganoff... oh wow... it was superb! The only problem I have with this place is everything on the menu looks great, so there is a big problem in choosing.
(5)Tom G.
I'm puzzled by the two-star reviews mixed in with all the fours and fives. I've been going to Anna's at lunch at least once a week for maybe three or four months, and I've had nothing but great experiences. I've never encountered a problem with the service, received the wrong order or been served food in a to-go container. My favorite comfort food there is the chicken and noodles, followed closely by the chicken pot pie and the meatloaf. They offer a substantial fresh side salad (I always order the Caesar) for $2 with an entree. Daily specials can be good too. I took my wife for dinner last Friday and they had seafood lasagna - as good as the Friday lunch special at Garrozo's - took a friend for lunch yesterday and they had it again!
(5)Chad T.
Came here for lunch with a group from work. We tried the lasagne (only slightly better than Stouffers) and the mac and cheese (nothing to write home about). The prices were too high for what you get (basically cafeteria food is how someone here aptly described it). I could see maybe going here again if you could get a main dish and two sides for $5 or something, but otherwise no. Want some great Mac and Cheese in KC? Check out McCoy's Public House!
(2)Emily H.
Great food and great service! The roasted chicken was fantastic; moist and flavorful. The mashed potatoes were so homemade I thought I was was eating Christmas dinner. The mac and cheese was really good too. Great home-cooked food that will leave you wanting more!
(4)Aubry M.
The Blanco Mac & Cheese with chicken was CREAMY, RICH, and DELICIOUS! Opening day, and apparently everyone already knows what's up, as many of the menu options were sold out by mid-lunch. May up this to 5 stars once I've had a chance to try more of the menu, but they're off to a great start!
(4)Jill K.
This place is absolutely fantastic. We had the mac and cheese americano and the meatloaf. Everything was perfect. The staff members were so gracious and kind. Not only is the food amazing, half of their proceeds go to charity! You must check this place out.
(5)Diana H.
My friends and I had plans to meet at Blue Koi, but after I saw this place I convinced them to switch! I ordered the meatloaf, with mashed potatos and a piece of chocolate cake. The servers were friendly and attentive, and the service was quick. In short; Good food, and substantial portions. A nice atmosphere, cozy. Prices in the 6-12 range, desserts and sides 2-4. A great addition to the neighborhood. My only complaint was that the menu they have for you to take with you is not up-to-date, and lists dishes they don't offer any longer.
(5)Scott D.
2nd visit for my wife, 1st for me, -I was pleasantly surprised. Rotisserie chicken was moist and nicely seasoned, mac and cheese was excellent, acorn squash was flavorful. Service was friendly but not annoyingly so. Pumpkin bread pudding was very good. I hope they succeed with all the competition on Restaurant Row.
(4)Lorena M.
In walking distance and when you want a homecooked meal without cooking it, this is the place to go. They have daily specials, usually a choice of 3 ranging from $8-10 and comes with an entree, side/salad and dessert (mmm, homemade cookies or brownies!) I have enjoyed everything I've eaten here, from the very flavorful meatloaf to the southwest blanco mac n cheese with chicken. The only complaint I had was 1 time, my veggies weren't really cooked but that's really it. The people who work there are very friendly and the food is good quality and you won't go broke. A little tip, it's better to buy a bottle of wine for your table rather than by the glass.
(5)Anush J.
Homemade feel - which is fine, except that I feel like we make comparable if not better homemade options at our own house. Do not want to dine out to homemade food that is not memorable. Small selection, very all American. Ordered meat loaf - just ok. mashed potatoes (also ok), and a spicy mac n cheese - good, but not memorable. The atmosphere is quaint and cute and the reception was warm and friendly. The food is not bad or distasteful, but it is just not my idea of eating out. Will not go back.
(2)J P.
Great food, friendly atmosphere. Truly delicious, loved the salads, and the Mac and cheese selections. We will be back to try the other menu items. The people were so nice and helpful.

Anna's Oven. ...the name is really what the place is and what you might expect. It is home style cooking. I went for the lasagne after reading about it in the paper. I would not describe it as the best in town, but nonetheless, it was good. I believe it was priced around $7. I made it there at lunch time and it was not hard to find a table. I was disappointed there were not more customers. The lady at the counter was very pleasant. The thing I liked more about Anna's than the food was the concept of giving 50 percent of the profits to educational charities the first of which was a girls school in Kenya. I sort of felt like Oprah for a moment....or was it an Oprah moment? I hope Anna's turns profits. 39th Street has seen places come and go, but one willing to give back a large percentage of the till? Sometimes it only takes one person or one place to inspire. Good for Anna's.

So many different businesses have attempted to make this spot in the block a success, most of them not even lasting six months. The current attempt is Anna's Oven. I chose to give this one a try after reading a local review about it & I learned that they nobly plan to donate 50% of their profits to charities. This seems nearly impossible in today's restaurant market, especially in this location where all prior attempts have failed. My first impression of the place was that it was instantly a comfortable place to be. Neatly decorated with a combination of used chairs & tables, it had a feel like it was imported from a different time & place. The menu is written on a chalkboard & you order your food & drink at the counter and the server brings it to you once you choose a place to sit. When we first went in, early afternoon on Saturday, there was only one other diner in the place so we had our choice of where to sit. I ordered the mac & cheese & my companion ordered the rotisserie chicken with mashed potatoes. I wasn't sure if mac & cheese was going to be enough for lunch but refrained from getting anything else. When my mac & cheese arrived it turned out that it was a good thing I only ordered it because it was very thick & rich & delicious, but really quite filling. I didn't try the rotisserie chicken because my friend snapped at me to "get my own" if I wanted any. She liked it so much she wasn't willing to part with any of it. The whole time we were enjoying our food the dining room was steadily filling up with guests. When we came in it was almost empty but half way thorough our meal all the tables were full, I even saw someone move over on their table so a stranger could sit along with them. I point this out because this is just the kind of environment this place is. It seems to make people feel comfortable with complete strangers. My friend pointed out how it is odd how a place like this can have all this old used decor but still feel spotlessly clean where some restaurants can have brand new stuff & feel dirty. I really enjoyed my experience here. If I were to find any flaw it would be with drinks. I tried to order tea but they only sell pre-packaged sweetened tea, so I considered a Coke but then noticed the only sold these tiny little glass bottles of it, so settled on water. I wasn't the only one that made this decision on the Coke either, I heard two other diners order the Coke only to change their minds after seeing the bottle. I hope Anna's Oven survives, this neighborhood is filled with restaurants that have an authentic feel to them & it feels right that Anna's Oven is right along with them.

Went for dinner last week and it was delicious. Fresh salad, Mac and cheese (best ever). Good wine, reasonably priced. One in our group had meatloaf and potatoes...yummy. Lasagna by another in our group and it too was very good. Good service and quite enjoyable...will definitely go back and try some other items on the menu!

Had heard great things about Anna's and I agree. Very cozy atmosphere and friendly staff. The food selection is limited but the 4 of us got a very delicious and satisfying meal. The price point is incredibly inexpensive for the quality of food. Meatloaf, lasagna, roasted chicken, salads, and the blueberry pineapple cobbler. Really really tasty. We will go again soon.

Has it really been a year since I managed to get in here? Time for an update. I don't know why I manage to get into Anna's on nights when they aren't busy. This place always, always, always serves up amazing food and great service. Not to mention highly attractive staff. That can be a distraction, especially when you are on a date. Don't let this underrated place be unappreciated. Go yelpers. And haters, no love for you!

The vegetarian lasagna is delicious! I would have never thought to order lasagna without meat in it but because I don't eat pork, I went with it. So worth it! Our server was nice and courteous and food was prepared without a long wait.

I've given Anna's Oven two chances now and I just don't know if I'll be back. Service: Both times there was only one server for the entire restaurant, it's a relatively small place, but still a tad too big for just one person. The servers barely greeted us when we walked in, they just kind of looked up. It took well over ten minutes to even give us menus both times and after that they rarely came to our table, spending most of their time behind the empty counter. Each visit we had a different server, so maybe they're trained to do that? I don't know. Also the last time we visited, our party of two was seated at a six-top table while at least two two-tops sat with dirty dishes and old, half-eaten food on them. They sat untouched from the time we arrived to the time we left. Food: On the first visit, we had no idea what to order, we just knew the Mac and cheese and desserts were supposed to be amazing. So two of us opted for side orders of the blanco mac along with side spring mix salads, and the other person got the Italian sausage sandwich with a spring mix salad as well. We also ordered two of the blueberry-pineapple cobblers to go. The Mac and cheese was great, definitely the best part of our meal. The salads were a bit overdressed, but still good. But everyone felt the Italian sausage sandwich was pretty small for the $9 price tag, it seemed like it was about 80% bread. Also when we got the cobblers they were cold, like straight out of the fridge cold. I've never heard of cold cobbler before and I'm not sure if it's actually meant to be served at that temp, but it was still very good. The second visit was just my mom and I. We weren't super hungry so we decided to split the chicken pot pie which came with a side salad, and then we got a side of the Mac and cheese to share as well. The Mac and cheese was just as amazing as before. The salad was still overdressed, again I didn't mind much, but my mom complained to me that the lettuce was "swimming in ranch". The pot pie looked amazing, but looks are deceiving. I'm hoping they ran out of their normal filling that day because it was nothing like we expected. We got a bowl of canned soup with some huge chunks of sweet potato thrown in and covered with puff pastry. Normally, I'd never accuse a restaurant of something like this, but that's exactly what it tasted and looked like, a can of Progresso chicken soup. The server was nice enough to offer to get us something else to replace it when we told her we didn't care for it, but we were actually pretty full from the salad and Mac and cheese, so we declined. We were planning to get dessert, but after the pot pie mess we just decided to skip it and go get snow cones down the street at Miami Ice instead. Also they have a sign posted saying they need more help in the kitchen, so maybe their new hires will help fix everything when they get them. Time will tell, I guess. Prices: I think this place is a bit pricey, but after learning that a large portion of their proceeds go to charity, I don't mind paying it. Overall: I really wanted to love this place. I'd go back for the Mac and cheese and maybe the cobbler, but nothing else I've tried there has wowed me. So unless I've got a craving for one of those two things, I'll probably walk a little further down 39th to one of the other restaurants.
